Altadena Rise Candle

I am deeply moved by the news of the recent wildfires wreaking havoc in Southern California. I am particularly moved by the story of the Historic Black Community of Altadena, and I am raising funds to help supply home building materials to Altadena residents that have been impacted by the recent Eaton Fires. Especially those that were living in homes that have been inherited. Instead of giving a percentage over a limited amount of time, we are committed to giving 100% of profits for this single item indefinitely.

This candle has an ocean scent to represent all the oceanside cities that have been affected. The soy wax is made from American-grown beans and processed in American plants, supporting US agriculture and economic sustainability.

The families of Altadena have been able to achieve something that many Blacks aspire to do--build generational wealth. Altadena has been a place of refuge for Black Americans to escape systemic racism in the Jim Crow south and families moved to the area in the 1920s. Altadena's story is significant because many of the families are made up of middle-class working people that have inherited their homes. The greatest concern with these Eaton fires is that inequalities could be magnified leaving this black community with fewer resources than their surrounding wealthy areas. I no longer want to hear stories of Black communities being destroyed. Injustices in the black community must come to an end! It is our birthright to possess the land that is rightfully ours. The history of Altadena highlights the resilience and contributions of African Americans, and their legacy deserves to live on.

The best way to give is DIRECTLY to fire victims. There are also several organizations in existence that support wildfire victims as well. I have designed this candle as a way to use my creativity to give back to a community that is full of world renown talent.
